Neon colors, leggings, lace, and ribbon with heavy eyeliner–all things that today will get you on the biggest ‘don’t’ list ever, but all those things were the look so chic back when Madonna ruled the 80s. Take a look back at how Madge set trends back then with ‘Dress You Up’:

Up in Smoke

Nothing says ‘sexy’ and ‘come hither’ quite like a smoky eye. Eyes done up in soft applications of burgundy, grey, brown, green, navy, and of course black look pretty—but if overdone can look too ‘porn’ (don’t blush, you know what I mean).

The trick to smoky eyes is really understanding your eye shape. Dark colors (such as those used in creating smoky eyes) recede–which means they’ll make your eyes appear smaller where you apply them; keep that in mind when applying your look.

Tips:

#1. If you have small eyes, try lining your eyes with the smoky shade as opposed to a full-on dark application which will make your eyes appear smaller.

#2. If you have close-set eyes (less than the length of an eye’s space in between your eyes), avoid applying the dark shade too close to your inner eye as that will make your eyes appear even more close-set. Instead, opt for a light shade in that area.

#3. Always do apply a light shade of eyeshadow under your brow bone to help open up the eye area and ‘finish’ the look.

#4. A nude lip balances a smoky eye effortlessly.
